Planning and Preparing a Pitch (P3: U21, M2: U21)

This is my initial practice pitch for my magazine. I practiced this in front of my peers in order to gain feedback. The second time I present this, it will be in front of the client.

The feedback I received:
Earlier this week i presented my magazine proposal in front of my class to get some feedback on what i did well and what needs to be improved.

- Add more images - Adding more images will help the viewers visualise my idea and really see it come to life. I will do this by simply adding images to every slide and replace them for words.

- Ethical problems - Letting the viewers know about ethical issues before hand allows them to see ahead and start coming up with solutions and what they need to do to get around this. To inform them about the ethical issues i will come up with several possible scenarios they can work on.

- Distribution - Distribution is a big part to think about, it includes how often the magazine gets published as well as where and how it gets published, wether its print based, online or both. I will help by planning out how often the magazine gets published and what the most effective way of publishing it is.

- More enthusiasm - This is simply feedback on my performance, to be more enthusiastic so the viewers see i am serious about this opportunity and that i want them to be too.
- Less text more bullet points - This is also simply feedback that will help me with my presentation looks wise and with my performance of it.

- Talk about sketched layouts - Going through the sketched layouts with the client, it will help him/her to notice specific important details that will help the magazine. From this they will also be able to provide me with advice so that I can develop my production pieces.

Updated Presentation:
The changes i made are
  • An introduction to the brief
  • Font styles
  • More details added to the article ideas
  • More details added to the place in the market
  • More detail added to the demographics
  • Distribution and pricing
  • Needs of the target audience
  • Legal and Ethical constraints

Potential questions the client may ask:

- How are you going to distribute the magazine?
The magazine will be distributed through selected news agents and corner shops. As well as being available through our website and the DatPiff app.
- Is there enough content out there to keep the magazine going?
The Grime genre has gotten so far in the last few years which has left a lot of content untouched by other magazines. As well as the rise of new artists and projects which will offer our magazine a lifetime supply of content
- How often will the magazine be published?
The magazine will be published once a month which will give time for new and exciting stories to emerge.
- How much will the magazine cost?
The magazine will only cost £5, the decision of this price was based upon the target audience.
- What is a legal issue the magazine could face?
A legal issue that the magazine may face is the ability to add images of grime artists into the magazine which they would need consent from the artist for
- Is there any serious competition?
There is no direct competition as no magazine out there focuses specifically on grime. The main competition we may face is the widely popular magazine COMPLEX which focuses on several different genres such as fashion and lifestyle but they are also very well known for the articles on anything to do with music.
